First the client emailed me a brief (description of the idea) and a sketch to enquire whether this kind of illlustration would be something I can do. We discussed the use that the image would be put to and agreed the fee.

Brief: Illustration for ESB Customer Supply Energy At Home front cover Oct/Nov 2006 Illustration shows flowers (tulips) and grasses in extreme perspective, to the extent that the stalks are bending inwards. The foreground is clear focus while the objects at a distance are less distinct. Peeking out from these are a long-life bulb, lagging jacket, phone charger and kettle. Overall, we’re trying to create a sense of heightened reality with the use of vivid colours and dimensionality – think of the characters in the kids’ TV series Magic Roundabout.
